LUTE Rose, 1977
ButtonA lute is a particularly magestic instrument, and used to be the primary instrument for music students. I designed and built this one from scratch as my first project in RISD, as well as a system for further lute construction, when I wend there for graduate studies.

LUTE Back
ButtonBack staves, neck and headstock are maple.

LUTE Rose
ButtonThe area carved into the soundhole is referred to as a "rose", in lute terminology. My challenge in designing this was to integrate a fourfold (cross) and a sixfold (star of David) geometric symetry in the design of the "knot". There is another well-known lute rose, named the "The Knot of Leonardo."
GENESI Cornered Classical
Fifty four years old, this was for me build No. 1, my first acoustic instrument, made in 1970. Hence the name Genesi. The shape came from a dream, but the guitar was only built after on a fluke I met a luthier–Jim (Doc) Pitman. He sold me an incredible German spruce soundboard (50 grains per inch) for $20, and then, well, the rest of my life followed.
GENESI Classical Back
The first back on this guitar warped and detatched around 35 years ago. In 2020, I decided to restore it. So I cut the neck off, put together another set of rosewood and rebuilt it. This is the new embodiment of Genesi No. 1.
GRAND Classical
I had built several Corenered models of all types, so this one was an effort to emulate the classic shape.
GRAND Classical Back
There is a distinct difference in tone derived from the shape of a guitar, as exemplied by this model compared to the Cornered guitar. They all sound different, but if they're built right, they all sound good.

WUNDAY Guitar
ButtonSound ports are integral with the structure.
-
WUNDAY Guitar Back
ButtonBack is run of the mill maple.
-
WUNDAY Guitar Body
ButtonA guitar splayed toward the neck slips off your leg. So that's what the curved arm does.
-
WUNDAY Guitar Neck Joint
ButtonIt's not apparent in the photo, but the neck is a through-neck design, which is integral with the body and the bridge.
